Hotel Saranac Reopens Following Restoration

By Will Speros

Hotel Saranac has returned to the Adirondacks following its $35 million refresh as a new addition to the Curio Collection by Hilton. Boston-based firm Korn Design oversaw the overall redesign, while Wilton, New Hampshire-based design practice RSJ Associates oversaw the interiors.

First constructed in 1927, the hotel is the last of the 13 properties that formerly lined the banks of the Saranac Lake in upstate New York. Interiors evoke the sophistication of the Roaring Twenties through a modern lens. Outfitted with a palazzo-inspired design, the Great Hall on the second floor draws influence from the Davanzati Palace from 14th century Florence. Ornately painted beams are adorned with images of local fauna such as geese and hares. The massive public space also includes an intimate fireplace setting, the Great Hall bar, and an adjacent terrace and veranda overlooking Main Street. Additional amenities include the Ampersand Salon and Spa, the rustic Campfire Adirondack Grill + Bar, and the retail arcade Academy & Main.

The hotel’s 82 reimagined guestrooms are spread throughout the main building, while 20 additional suites will debut within the adjacent complex Compass Point later this year. Architectural wood furniture populates many spaces alongside deep blue rugs, white linens, and rich textures that span a palette of deep reds and oranges. Original, retro-style travel posters adorn the walls of the accommodations as well, complete with native symbols from the region.
