Rooms Reveal Sophisticated Look, Historic Feel
WILTON, NH – The Hotel Saranac’s rich past and deep ties to Saranac Lake, N.Y., have served as an inspiration throughout the remodeling of the historic hotel in the heart of the village. The distinct look that has emerged in all parts of the hotel is evident in the hotel’s two model rooms.
“We wanted to make sure the new look of the hotel reflected the history of the Hotel Saranac and what it has meant to Saranac Lake,” says Fred B. Roedel III, Managing Member of Roedel Companies.
The Hotel Saranac opened in 1927 and was designed to be a city hotel in the middle of the Adirondacks, combining a metropolitan feel with the rugged flair of the region. The Roedel Companies is meticulously restoring the Hotel Saranac and plans to re-open the grand hotel by the end of the year.
RSJ Associates of Wilton, N.H., was chosen to provide the interior design and procurement services. Sue Pollio, president and founder of RSJ, said she wanted to give the guest rooms a modern touch and still maintain a feel of the “Great Gatsby” era of sophistication and elegance.
The influences of the region are marked by the colors used in the fabrics. Rich reds, oranges and yellows captures what Pollio calls “the feel of Saranac.” The artwork incorporates native symbols found in the beams of the hotel’s Grand Hall, and the floor to ceiling headboards give the room stylish flair.
“We wanted to keep the historical integrity of the hotel and we kept that in mind throughout the design process,” Pollio said. “We wanted to bring the architectural detail of the building into the rooms, and you can see that in everything from the carpets to the door knobs.”
