September 8, 2006
MANCHESTER – Queen City native Jim Burke will unveil his vision of baseball in 1800’s Manchester entitled, ‘On Deck’ during a private gathering at the Hilton Garden Inn Manchester, on Thursday, September 21st, between 5 and 7pm.
The piece is a five ft. by 10 ft. oil painting on linen and is a tribute to the early days of Queen City Baseball. Burke has concentrated on the heart and soul of Manchester’s Amoskeag Textile Club, placing the viewer behind the plate and allowing them to view the city landscape as it was in the 1900’s.
‘On Deck’ has been commissioned by Roedel Companies, LLC the owner, developer and operator of the Hilton Garden Inn, and will be on display for residents and visitors of Manchester to enjoy.
"Jim Burke is an incredible talent with a unique ability to capture the inner thoughts and feelings of the people, places and activities displayed in his work,” explained David Roedel. “We felt a strong connection with Jim's style and felt compelled to ask him to create a piece of art that captured the spirit of our Millyard inspired exterior design, unique, ballpark setting and our dedication to world class guest service."
Van Otis Chocolates, one of the many businesses that turns up in the ‘On Deck’ skyline, will also be there to show their support for the painting and its contribution towards to the history and longevity of downtown Manchester.
Burke is a Gold Medal recipient from the prestigious Society of Illustrators (NYC) and has also won a Parent’s Choice Gold Award, and Oppenheim Toy Portfollio Gold and Platinum: Best Book Awards.
