Roedel Companies’ Donation Makes New Bishop Guertin High School Fitness Facility Possible

83% of its Students Play on a Sports Team so Staying in Top Form is Important Nashua, NH February 3, 2009…83% of Bishop Guertin High School’s 870 students participate in at least one of the 31 sports that the school offers. The completion of its new state-of-the-art fitness facility has therefore been met with tremendous enthusiasm. "Bishop Guertin is one of the finest academic institutions in the state. We constantly challenge our students both in the classroom and via sports. We believe that sports are important because they provide students with different challenges than academics,” says Tony Johnson (class of ’77), Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Bishop Guertin High School. “Sports help students develop leadership skills, discipline, teamwork, and self confidence since they must contend with adversity, competition and work with others when they are part of a team.” At 3,400 square feet, the new Bishop Guertin High School fitness facility is double the size of the old one. Today 150 to 200 students regularly benefit from its offerings, whereas only 20 to 30 students used the old one. The project, which cost $60,000, was fully funded by Bishop Guertin High School’s alumni. The largest donor was Roedel Companies of Wilton, NH, which contributed $10,000. Both partners in the company, Fred Roedel the III and David Roedel, attended Bishop Guertin High School. David continues to coach as an assistant on its football team. “Bishop Guertin High School played a large role in my brother’s and my life,” says David Roedel, Partner, Roedel Companies. “It challenged us athletically, academically and socially. We learned that teamwork and hard work equates success and apply this philosophy to the businesses we run.” Additions to the new fitness facility include three triple set power stations, cardio machines, elliptical machines, a cable press machine, a leg curl machine, a leg extension machine and a shoulder press. Bishop Guertin High School recognizes that interscholastic and intramural athletics complement and enhance a student’s academic experience. It therefore applies the same high standards to sports as it does to academics. To learn more about its sports offerings visit http://www.bghs.org/bgsports/philosophy.html.
