When it comes to owning and operating hotels, David Roedel says, “there’s only one way to do it and that’s the right way.”

Roedel has been working with his father, Fred B. Roedel, and brother, Fred B. Roedel III, as a partner and member of Roedel Corp.’s management team. His simple business motto, “Hotels. Done right,” has built Roedel Corp., a locally based group, into a nationally recognized corporation and a leader in the hospitality industry.

With a multimillion-dollar portfolio and brand name partnerships across the country, Roedel Corp. shows no signs of slowing down.

“We started as a regional hotel operator,” Roedel said. “But we started working with investors and partners in order to grow.”

The Wilton-based company started 12 years ago as the successor to Chalet Susse International Inc., which was founded by Fred Roedel in 1967. The Susse Chalet hotel brand was one of the most dependably profitable hotel chains in the Northeast. They owned, operated, developed and franchised 36 hotel properties up and down the East Coast when the hotel chain was sold in 2000.

After the sale, Fred Roedel founded Roedel Partners. The company took a more entrepreneurial turn, according to David Roedel, which proved beneficial when the recession hit. As Americans cut back on leisurely travel, hotels nationwide experienced a 17 percent drop in revenue per available room, according to Roedel.

It was just last year when the company came up with a saying to define this transitional period, “Hotels. Done right.”

“It defines the way we treat guests at the front desk, the way we treat workers on a work site, and the way we treat each other,” Roedel said. “It’s an internal and external message of showing respect to each other.”

Roedel Corp. continues Chalet’s legacy by developing, renovating and managing branded and independent hotels for its own portfolio as well as third-party owners and investors.

In addition to owning hotels, Roedel Corp. provides hotel services through its subsidiary organizations RGH Hospitality and ROK Builders.

Some of their brand name properties include Fairfield Inns by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, La Quinta Inn & Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, and Holiday Inn Express.

Among some of their recent projects to fill their portfolio, Roedel currently owns and is in the process of renovating the former Fairfield Inn estate in Merrimack. After a multimillion dollar infusion last spring, the property will reopen its doors as a Holiday Inn Express this summer with a completely renovated lobby, business center and fitness facility.

“We are uniquely positioned to grow with our own money to invest and ability to manage hotels,” Roedel said. “We want to double or triple the size of our hotel portfolio within the next three years.”
